Colorado State University – Pueblo ThunderWolves Induct Hall of Fame
The best athletes at CSU-Pueblo were inducted into the new ThunderWolves Hall of Fame on October 30, 2009. A crowd of more than 250 was present. Athletes were recognized for soccer, basketball, baseball, football, track and field and tennis as well as contributor and a special award.
The Publisher of The Pueblo Chieftain was recognized as a contributor and the special award was given posthumously to former coach and administrator, Dr. Dale Rae.
The best and the brightest of the athletic programs at Colorado State University-Pueblo were honored Friday night at the Union Depot as the inaugural class of the new ThunderWolves Hall of Fame. Honorees included: James “Spank” Blasing, Cal Tatus, Chuck Pipher, John Martinez, Daniela Ivana, Freda Hancock, Frank Grant, Pat Bekeza, and Nadia Fercha. A group induction for the 1961 men’s basketall NJCAA national championship team was performed.
As former students of CSU Pueblo, tracking down all the recipients was difficult but all were able to attend except Ivana who was a foreign student and lives overseas. Several of the inductees have remained in Pueblo or other cities in Colorado.
